Loch lomond map
Our multi layered Loch Lomond map artwork was a Laber of love.
As the second largest lock in Scotland after lock ness, I wanted to create a layer map for some time now, and as Scotland have some of the most beautiful rivers, water way and lock i through this would make a lovey piece of art to add to our growling collections.
The bottom layer which symbolise the water, this is made from 3mm (about 0.12 in) of MDF and sprayed a lovely rich blue colure.
The second part of the map, which is the land mass, is made of 3mm (about 0.12 in) birch ply and lovingly sanded and varnished 3 times, to being out the wood.
The top layer of which is the road network is made from MDF same as the waterway base layer but sprayed black to stand out from the rest of the artwork.
The map information was sourced from different map sites and broken down into individual layers, then inputted to our graphics software so it can be used on our laser machine.
At the bottom of the map is an information plaque with little information about the Loch and the location, of which is made from walnut ply sanded and finished with wood wax. then engraved lettering of which is back filled with a white resin to make it look and stand out more.
The frame is from reclaimed window frames of which is Brazilian hardwood oak.
The old stain was removed to bring back its natural look then I cut the wood the size and machined then edges after this it was sanded with progressively finer sanded paper and then sealed with finishing wax sanded and a second coat and a final sanding to give it a wonderful shin.
I have purposely left the back uncovered to allow light to pass through, as well as the wall it will be displayed on to show through.
If I can, I will always try and use reclaimed wood. So, there for each frame can be a different type of wood.
